Pepper Spray for Self Defense

Choosing pepper spray

Pick by format first: a stream for carry, foam for indoors. Percent OC is not a strength figure, so compare formats instead. Replace each canister on its printed date.

Best pepper spray for everyday carry

The most-ordered sprays here are keychain hard-shells like the Guardian Shell and the Guardian Shell blue, and flip-tops like the Silent Control. Full ranking: the 12 best-selling pepper sprays.

Keychain OC spray

Hard-shell keychain sprays protect the button. Leatherette sleeves are softer and slimmer, like the Everyday Edge, BrightGuard and Violet Guardian. The Point-Lock is shaped for easy aim. See keychain pepper spray.

Pink and purple pepper spray

Color choices include hot pink (Signal-Safe), pink (Everyday Confidence), purple (Quiet Control) and red (Beacon Grip).

Pepper foam and home defense spray

Foam stays where it lands, so it is easier to use indoors. Pick the Signal Shield foam, the Steady Hand home spray or the Twist-Safe. Compare patterns in stream vs foam vs fog.

Pepper spray holsters

A holster keeps your spray on your belt and your hands free: the Shadow Ready belt holster, the Midnight Duty leather holster and the Night Shift low-profile holster.
